SCADA Systems Integrator

Phoenix Control Systems Ltd. is a SCADA integrator.  As SCADA integrators,  we provide automation solutions for any manufacturing production process.  Following see an overview of SCADA Systems.

What is SCADA?

SCADA stands for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. Therefore, it is a combination of software and hardware components, and it allows supervision and control in factories both remotely and locally. Also, they collect data in real-time allowing companies to control their industrial processes.

Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) software are rapidly advancing. However, some customers don’t recognise the potential benefits and cost savings. For example, better HMI designs, event processors such as generator started, pump running, and conveyor stopped. As a result, they provide end-users with a tool for peace of mind even when they are not in the company.  So, we have mentioned just some of the technology trends that help customers maximise their SCADA system ROI.  However, we suggest contacting an integrator that knows about SCADA to take full advantage of the system.

Industries using SCADA Systems

We design, build and integrate custom SCADA systems for a broad range of industries and manufacturing systems.  Examples include: manufacturing plant systems, water systems, Oil and Gas systems, wastewater systems, and food production systems, just to name a few.

Oil and Gas Systems

Food Production Systems

Renewable Energy

Manufacturing Plant

Water Systems

Power Distribution

What is Renewable energy?

Renewable energy is energy derived from natural sources. For example:  Sunlight and wind,  are such sources that are constantly around us. SCADA systems allow for remote monitoring and control of wind power plants. Besides this, SCADA platforms protect the equipment from security threats.  Moreover,  the system collects data for monitoring purposes.

How does a SCADA system work?

The SCADA system is operating on-site and connected to the network’s communication infrastructure. Then, they send information to the network and remotely connected it to the communication infrastructure. Following this, allows the operator to visualise any error or abnormality in the production process and make any necessary adjustments. As a result, these tasks can be easily automated with the SCADA network, and there is no need to use manual labour.

Features of SCADA Systems

Manufacturers need to consider SCADA industrial automation to improve and manage industrial processes. Manufacturing processes are too complex of a system to be monitored and controlled by the staff.

Some of the main features are:

  • Data acquisition
  • Remote control units
  • Network data communication
  • HMI Data presentation
  • Real-time data
  • Customised Report

Why is a SCADA system important?

The main reason to use SCADA systems is to help optimise production and control the production according to manufacturing regulations. Also, it is used for troubleshooting and maintenance for continuous production with minimum errors.

Besides this, SCADA grant the staff to control operations and quickly react to emerging issues. Therefore, with more automation processes, manufacturers can save money in the long run and invest in others resources within the company.

Role of the HMI Software in the SCADA

Human Machine Interface (HMI Software) makes it possible to interact with devices such as pumps, sensors, valves, motors and other processes. The structural design of the SCADA system starts with microprocessors such as Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). They communicate with the devices and the HMI. The data is conducted from the microprocessors to the SCADA computer.

Our Example

Real-Time Data for Analysis to prevent troubleshooting problems in the processes

SCADA software can collect data for historical purposes for analysis, prevent troubleshoot problems and identify improvements. Therefore, the data collected from the devices is transmitted to the PLCs and distributed to the system of the HMI, operator computers, and servers. Then, the operator can interact with devices such as opening valves or running pumps.  For example, HMI-SCADA shows conveyor details below.

Example: Description of the SCADA system

  • The system is used to transport and process the aluminium swarf which is discharged by the conveyors of three machines (type Starrag Ecospeed-F).
  • The transport is done with three vacuum stations installed underneath the discharge conveyor of each machine in the production area.
  • A conveyor system transports the briquettes to the skips located outside. A swivel chute mounted above the skips distributes the briquettes being discharged in the two skips.
  • They are connected to overhead suction pipework mounted in the production area.
A high vacuum suction unit in the swarf room is connected to the end of this pipework.

The plant operators Control the Processes

The operators control industrial processes via switches and push buttons. Therefore, when manufacturing grows and there is a need to control processes remotely, factories can install relays and timers in the electrical control panel.  These components provide a level of automation, supervise and control of the processes.  Nonetheless, these automated processes allow the company to reduce the number of staff needed to keep the operation running. SCADA systems improves factory operations from the local computer to the office in any part of the world.

Reason to implement SCADA Systems

The role of SCADA systems are:

  • Gather, control, monitor and process data in real-time
  • Give access to controls and interact with outputs such as sensors, valves, pumps, motors and other devices
  • Display pertinent information for the supervision of the plant production
  • Give access to data logs
  • Display fault conditions
